MARSEILLES, Ill. — Marjorie J. Madison, 80, of Marseilles, Ill., formerly of Newton, died Friday, March 11, 2005, at Rivershores Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Marseilles.

Graveside memorial services will be held at Eslinger Cemetery in Monroe County at a later date. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home in Marseilles, Ill., is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Marseilles, Ill.

The daughter of Jasper and Ella (Allison) Fortner, she was born July 13, 1924, in Olathe, Colo. In 1994, she married Walter Madison. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Newton.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Terry and James Thomas of San Diego, Calif., and Patty Jo and John P. Smith of Marseilles, Ill.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jack Sandstrom of Oregon.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Harry Burkett and Walter Madison; a son, Clyde Warrick; three brothers, John Sherman, James Edward and George Henry Fortner; and two sisters, Emma Viola Knapp and infant Beverly Fortner.
