William G. Kauzlarich, 81, of Newton died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Nelson Manor Care Center in Newton.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Elgin Cemetery in Mystic with the Rev. Ron Will of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville officiating. The American Legion Post 138 of Centerville will present military honors.

Visitation will be held today from 4 to 6 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A prayer service will be conducted by Tammy Norcross at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted in his name.

The son of Julius and Mary Kauzlarich, he was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Rathbun. He was a graduate of Rathbun High School. On Oct. 2, 1954, he married Marilyn J. Roby in Mystic. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from June 22, 1943, to Dec. 20, 1945, as a Radioman Third Class. He worked at Newton Sheet Metal and the Parsons Company. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. He enjoyed the outdoors. He also enjoyed baseball and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and was an educated investor in the stock market.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Kauzlarich of Joliet, Ill.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Sandy Young, James Sawvel, Francis O'Roake and Marian McCumber, all of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, after two years of marriage; and two brothers, Julius and Rudy V. Kauzlarich.
