URBANDALE — VaLora "Val" Hanson, 77, of Urbandale, formerly of Newton, died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Howard Vrankin of Newton First Lutheran Church
officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in her name.

The daughter of James B. and F. Pearl (Paine) Mesecher, she was born March 13, 1928, in Webster City. She was a 1945 graduate of Webster City High School. On Jan. 19, 1947, she married Lloyd L. Hanson in Webster City. She was a homemaker and was employed by Hanson Directory Services Inc. in Newton. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Newton and enjoyed cards, bridge and travel.

Survivors include a son, William L. (Monica) Hanson of Johnson; daughter Cheryl (Ronald) Smith of Ft. Collins, Colo.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Dennis L. Hanson; and two brothers, Ivan in infancy and Gerald Mesecher.
