George L. Evans, 61, of 701 N. Second Ave. E. died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Eldon Pals officiating. Burial will be in Searsboro.
Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name.

The son of Leo and Mabel (Larson) Evans, he was born April 6, 1944, in Montezuma. He graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School. In 1965, he married Rita Hasley in the Montezuma-Searsboro area. He served in the Iowa National Guard and worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block in Newton for 10 years. He spent most of his life in Newton.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Lisa Evans of Dyersville and Steve and Momoko Evans of Great Mills, Md.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joni and Craig Frette of Des Moines and Connie and Dennis Thompson of Grinnell; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Jim Evans of Grinnell; and a brother-in-law, Kenny Beaderstadt of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a sister, Leona Beaderstadt; and a brother, Delmar Evans.
