Carl R. Etter, 81, of Newton died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at his home.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Fred and Nancy (Groves) Etter, he was born Oct. 12, 1923, in Russell. He has been a resident of Newton since 1947. On June 28, 1951, he married Mary Helen Hammer in Bethany, Mo. He worked for Winpower Corporation for more than 36 years and retired in 1985. From 1986 to 1995, he bought and sold antiques. Since 1992, he and his wife have been raising three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Hannah and Emily.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Diane L. Laver of Newton; three sons, Carl D. (Connie) Etter of Altoona, Danny L. (Michelle) Etter of Clio and Darrel R. (Ralphine) Etter of Newton; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert (Minnie Lou) Etter of Melcher, Larry (Pat) Etter of Newton and Donnie (Becky) Etter of Omaha, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Laura Etter of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Ricky Dean and Thomas Wayne Etter in infancy; and a sister, Ulah Golob.
