Donald U. “Barney” Elscott, 91, of Newton, died Tuesday, Feb 1, 2005, at USA Healthcare, Newton.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 05, 2005 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf of the First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at the Sully Cemetery.

The son of Frank and Katherine (Kooistra) Elscott, he was born April 15, 1913, in rural Sully. He graduated from Pella High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central College in Pella. On April 15, 1949, he married Margaret Odgen in Newton. He worked at Parsons Company in sales and service, the worked at Maytag for 15 years. He retired in 1987.

Barney was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Newton Elks and the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. He worked at the Parson Company in the Sales and Service Dept. and then worked at Maytag for 15 years before retiring in 1987. Barney's greatest enjoyment was when he was able to travel.

Those left to honor Barney's memory are his wife, Margaret, and several nieces and nephews.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Pamela Jo Elscott, his 1st wife and their daughter Connie, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
