O. Raymond Provin, 90, of 608 W. 14th St. N. died of cancer Thursday, Jan. 1, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. David Wendel of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted in his name to the Jasper county Historical Society.

The son of Ora Marshall and Orpha Nevada (Hildebrand) Provin, he was born Oct. 19, 1913, in Newton. He was a 1932 graduate of Newton Senior High School. On Jan. 15, 1934, he married Ethel Waters in Newton. He was employed by the Maytag Company and was a foreman in the parts department. He retired in 1973. He was a member of the Izaak Walton League, Emerson Hough Chapter, and enjoyed hunting and going fishing with his wife.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Bob" and Mitzi Provin of Newton; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul J. and Edward Provin, both of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
