Robert J. "Bob" Crall, 70 of Newton, formerly of Melrose, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose with the Rev. Scott Lemaster officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Weller. Winfield Funeral Home in Albia is handling arrangements.

Friends may call today at the funeral home and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. The family will be present at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today and a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name.

The son of P. Robert and Helen (Brugos/Popson) Crall, he was born Oct. 22, 1933, in Melrose. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School in 1951. He worked for the Maytag Company, beginning in 1952 and retiring in 1988. After retirement, he enjoyed having coffee and visiting with his friends at the Newton Mall. He enjoyed nature, working in his flower garden and going on walks on the family farm with his nieces and nephews. He was a race car fan for more than 45 years and enjoyed the Knoxville Spring Car Races.

Survivors include five sisters and their husbands, Martha and Louis Flatter of Knoxville, Phyllus Doran of East Palestine, Ohio, Barbara and Steve Kurimski of Lovillia, Mary Jo and Lowell Beary of Overland Park, Kan., and Lorriane and Pete Heles of Richardson, Texas; six brothers and their wives, Tom and Kathleen Crall of Urbandale, Bernard and Marian Crall of Urbandale, James Ed and Sally Crall of Lovillia, Dennis and Cheryl Crall of Orient, Greg Crall of Ankeny and Steve and Jeanne Crall of Melrose; 42 nieces and nephews; and 49 great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Hal Doran.
