Valarie Coady-Shepley, 35, of Newton died Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Michael Dack officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the church the day of the service or at the funeral home.

The daughter of John L. Coady and Sharon A. (Stevens) Gragg, she was born Aug. 19, 1961, in Moline, Ill. She was a Newton Senior High School graduate in 1987 and attended DMACC in Newton. On July 5, 1997, she married Don J. Shepley in Newton. She worked for Hunt Cleaners, Inc. in Newton and did volunteer work at Skiff Medical Center. She played the role of "Happy Bear" at the Head Start Preschool. She enjoyed watching her brother, Travis Coady, race his figure 8 stock car, and she also enjoyed camping.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Derek L. Gladson and Caleb A. Wilson, both of Newton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sara J. and Arleigh J. Esqueda of Baxter and Courtney Rae Wilson of Newton; one grandchild; her mother; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Travis and Ardis Coady and Terry Coady and companion Kristi Miller, all of Newton; a sister, Kim Bair of Newton; two step-brothers, Lee Gragg Jr. of Newton and Kenny Gragg of Lorimor; her maternal grandfather, Clarence Stevens of Newton; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Don and Charlotte Shepley of Colfax; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Jodie Borts of Colfax.

She was preceded in death by her father, stepfather, Lee Gragg; grandmother, Vivian Stevens; two brothers, Steven Fry and Ronald Coady; and a stepsister, Debra (Gragg) Sirma.
