Denver Austin Francis, 82, of 1105 E. 12th St. S., died of lung cancer Friday, Jan. 17, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Newton Union Cemetery with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center in Newton, officiating. Pence Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service, where the family will be available. Memorials will be accepted in his name.

The son of Asa E. and Amanda A. (White) Francis, he was born Dec. 14, 1920, in White Oak. He attended schools in Indianola. On Jun 2, 1941, he married Marcene G. Williams in Lancaster, Mo. He worked as a machinist for Machine Products in Des Moines and as an apartment manager and retired in 1985. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1940s.

Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, Denver E. and Joanna Francis of Newton and Terry Lee and Roberta Francis of McAlester, Okla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Daniel Kline of Des Moines; five grandchildren; a sister, Helen Castleberry of Muskogee, Okla.; and. a brother, Leo F. Francis of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter in infancy, a sister and two brothers.
