James Lamb Dies
Albia – James Lamb, 90 years old, one of four Civil war veterans in Monroe county and the second to die within five days, died at 7:50 a.m. today at his home in Avery.
He was born in Scotland, came to the United States when 10 years old, settling in Indiana, and later moved to central Iowa, in Jasper county. He moved to Avery ten years ago. He served two and one-half years in the Civil war, with the 48th infantry of Indiana.
Mr. Lamb had been in ill health since last winter. Surviving are his wife and four sons, Jesse of Runnells, Charles of Des Moines, James of Mystic and John of Avery.
The body was brought here to the Lewis & Allen funeral home, from where the funeral party will leave at 10 a.m. Saturday for Vandalia, in Jasper county. Services and burial will be held there.
