Mary Eileen Blatterbauer, 82, of Newton died Tuesday, Dec. 23, of congestive heart failure at Heritage Manor in Newton.

Services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton with Father Philip Cardenzana officiating. Burial will be held at Newton Union Cemetery. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home just prior to services. Memorials in her name may be made, in lieu of flowers, to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and/or the Animal Rescue League.

The daughter of William C. and Julia M. (Dalton) Bell, she was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School and Mercy School of Nursing in Des Moines. She worked as a nurse in the United States Navy from 1944 in Corona, Calif., until 1946 in Albany, N.Y. She also worked as a private nurse at Embassy Manor in Newton.

On May 8, 1948, she married Carl Blatterbauer in Brownsville, Texas. She was a resident of Newton for most of her life and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton.

Survivors include two sons, Kirk Blatterbauer and Scott Blatterbauer of Newton; a daughter, Lynn Blatterbauer of Newton; and a brother, Dalton Bell of Camarillo, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1990; and her son, Mark.
