Tabbert Rites Held Thursday
Final rites for August H. Tabbert, 79, were conducted Thursday afternoon at the Morgan Funeral home by Dr. George De Fisher, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Interment was in the Newton Union cemetery.
Pallbearers were Henry Riley, August Henning, E. P. Grant, Charles Schaumberg, August Stroink and W. J. Elliott.
Mrs. N. E. Campbell and Mrs. Frank Fisher arranged the flowers. A. Eugene Burton, accompanied by Lois Hundling, sang “The End of the Road” and “The Unclouded Day”.
Born in Minnesota
Mr. Tabbert, 79, was born Feb. 13, 1862, at Carver, Minn., and died June 10, 1941, at the Skiff Memorial hospital. He suffered a stroke in March and the second stroke about the first of June.
He was wed to Clemia J. Bayse in 1896 in Sioux Falls, S.D., and in 1900 he was discovered by the late F. L. Maytag as an accomplished mechanic and machinist handling threshing machine feelers. He came to Newton to work for the Maytag company in 1902 and had been employed there until retiring five years ago.
Stamp Cane Hobby
His stamp cane hobby and his stamp collection offered diversion for him during his retirement.
Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Anita Loveridge of Newton and three grandchildren, Gerald, Hubert and Evelyn Loveridge; a sister, Mrs. Ricka Sell of Adrian, Minn.
Mr. Tabbert was a member of the Three Quarter Century club of the Newton Daily News and Jasper County Record.
