Hold Rites for Mrs. R. Lawton
Funeral services for Mrs. Robert W. Lawton, 46, were conducted at the Methodist Episcopal church Friday afternoon by Dr. L. B. Logan with interment following in the Newton Union cemetery.
Pallbearers were Charles Cooper, Seibert Hammer, Floyd Fuller, C. R. Hooper, Roy Davis and Charles Ogden. Floral arrangements were made by Mrs. Floyd Fuller, Mrs. Roy Davis and Mrs. C. R. Hooper.
Mrs. L. B. Logan sang two songs “Living for Jesus” and “God Will Take Care of You,” accompanied by Lois Hundling.
Mrs. Lawton died at the State University of Iowa hospital Wednesday morning where she has been a patient since Easter Sunday of a throat infection following influenza.
Fannie Bates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bates, was born May 6, 1892 at Brazil, Ia., where she spent her early life. She was united in marriage to Robert W. Lawton on Feb. 14, 1914 and five children were born to this union.
Surviving relatives are her husband and children, Mrs. Robert Hayler of Dayton, O., John, student at Iowa State College at Ames and Dorothy, Harold and Freda, all at home, her mother, Mrs. May Bates of Brazil, Ia., and one granddaughter, Dorothy Louise Hayler. Five sisters and three brothers are Mrs. August Wendt, Mrs. Frank Fisher of Newton, Mrs. Raymond Iske of Mingo, Mrs. Harold Higby of Davenport and Mrs. Lillian Powell of Mystic, Ernest and John of Detroit, Mich., and Clyde of Mystic.
She was preceded in death by her father and one sister.
