Neal Vander Wilt was born April 17, 1888, in Pella, Iowa. He was the son of Henry Vander Wilt and Maggie Synhorst. He lived all his life in Marion and Jasper counties and passed away at 9:15 p.m. Friday, October 28, 1955, at his home in Sully, Iowa, having reached the age of 67 years, six months and 11 days.
On February 26, 1913 he was united in marriage to Mamie Vander Krol. To this union were born six children: Orval of Sully, Wildo of Monroe, Carrol of Taintor, Freda (Mrs. Wiebe Goodyk) of Lynnville, Lester of Sully and Vera (Mrs. Clarence Brand) of Sully.
He leaves to mourn, besides his wife and four sons and two daughters and their families including 17 grandchildren, his step-mother, Mrs. Henry Vander Wilt of Pella, two brothers, Gerrit and Henry Vander Wilt, two sisters, Jennie (Mrs. Jeff Willemsen) and Henrietta (Mrs. Peter Rozendaal) and a host of friends and loved ones.
He accepted Christ as his Saviour when he was a young man.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, October 31, 1955, at 12:45 from the family residence in Sully and 1:00 p.m. at the Reformed Church in Sully. Mr. Thomas McMillan was in charge, assisted by Rev. Charles Stoppels. Casket bearers were Henry Willemsen, Kenneth Vander Wilt, Floyd Vander Wilt, Gorman Rozendaal, Bert Renaud and Harris Van Zante. Mrs. Ralph Moes and Mrs. Abe Vos took care of the flowers.
Burial was in Sully cemetery.
