Life Story of Lewis Johnson
Lewis Johnson, son of Edward and Rebecca Tompkins Johnson, was born near Eldon, Iowa, December 6, 1889, and passed away August 17, 1955, at an Oskaloosa hospital at the age of 65 years, 8 months and 11 days.
At the age of two years, his family moved to a farm near Monroe. He spent the rest of his life here. He had been ill for several years but never complained.
Lou, as he was known to everyone, was one of five children, two of whom preceded him in death in infancy.
He was united in marriage on January 7, 1914, to Sadie Dop. To this union two children were born, Leona (Mrs. Ernest Buwalda) of Hermiston, Ore., and Edward of Otley.
Immediate survivors are his wife, Sadie, his daughter, Leona, his son, Edward, and seven grandchildren, Ronald, Curtis, Burton and Barbara Buwalda, and Lloyd, Laurel and LaVon Johnson. Also two brothers, Herbert E. and Albert, Both of Monroe, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
While our grief at his passing is immediate, the memory of his devotion and kindness he exemplified as a husband, father, grandfather and friend will remain with us for all time.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 22, 1955, at 1:30 p.m. at the Monroe Baptist church with the Rev. J. C. Van Wyk officiating. Interment was in the Monroe cemetery. Pella Garden Chapel had charge of the service.
