Life Story of M. Van Haaften
Marion Van Haaften, 77, a resident of rural Monroe, died Sunday at the Pella community Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 24, 1979, at the Otley Reformed Church.
The Rev. Alan J. Schreuder, pastor of the church conducted the services. Burial was in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Survivors are two sons, Duane of rural Monroe and Dean of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable, Nov. 28, 1955; parents; and a brother, David.
Mr. Van Haaften was a member of the Otley Reformed Church.
The son of Marnius D. and Jane De Reus Van Haaften, he was born Aug. 17, 1902, north of Pella.
He was married to Mabel McConeghey Dec. 21, 1926.

Marion Van Haaften, son of Marinus D. and Jane De Reus Van Haaften, was born August 17, 1902 at his parent's farm home north of Pella in what was known as the Bethel neighborhood. When he was seven years of age his parents moved to a farm south of Monroe, Iowa. On December 21, 1926 he was united in marriage with Mabel McConeghey and the years of their married life were spent on this same farm. Mabel passed away on November 28, 1955. Marion continued to live near this farm after her death until June of this year, when he moved to the Hilltop Manor at Pella and in August it became necessary for him to be cared for at the Pella Community Nursing Home where he passed away on Sunday, October 21, 1979 at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 4 days. He made profession of his faith and was a member until his death at the Otley Reformed Church where he served actively in several capacities, such as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Elder. Surviving are his two sons: Duane and his wife Norma of RR Monroe and Dean and his wife Marilyn of Des Moines. There are eight grandchildren: Connie Rearson, Cindy Van Wyk, Carol, Mark, Donald, Randall and Gary Van Haaften and Teresa Barnes; and one great-grandson, Branden Van Wyk. He was preceded in death by his wife Mabel; his parents, his mother died in 1945 and his father died in 1964. His only brother, David, died June 11, 1978.
