Monroe News – Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Carr and Mrs. Burton Chipps and Alan called in the Peter Dank and Ralph Colyn homes near Runnells Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Colyn was killed on Saturday, Oct. 19, when struck by a car as she was helping drive hogs across the highway near their home. She was the former Margaret Danks, a cousin of Mr. Carr and Mrs. Chipps. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Brethren Church west of Monroe. Rev. Zook was in charge.
Prairie City News – Mrs. Ralph Colyn, 46, was killed instantly Saturday when struck by a car on a gravel road near Runnells. Mrs. Colyn was driving some hogs off the road when she was struck by a car driven by Marlene Joy Gulling, 19, of near Runnells.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren five miles south of Prairie City with the Rev. Edward Zook officiating. Interment was in Waveland Cemetery. Special music was provided by Mr. George Frank accompanied by Mrs. Clarence Rowe. Flower arrangements were handled by Mrs. Price Brubaker and Mrs. Harry Wiggins. Pallbearers were John Frank, Harry Gass, Ben Lourens, Arthur Uitermarkt, Andrew Vande Lune and Harry Wiggins. Mrs. Colyn is survived by her husband, Ralph; and one son, Paul, a senior at Prairie City high school. She was born near Monroe Jan. 3, 1911, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Danks.
