Clarence Warren, 68, a resident of this community for many years, died instantly Friday night, when he suffered a heart attack while attending a Knights of Pythias party.
To the people of this community the sudden passing of Mr. Warren came as a great shock. He had been in the best of health and only that day had commented on the good health he was enjoying. Mr. Warren will be greatly missed by his many friends throughout this vicinity as he had made a large acquaintance through his years of service in various stores throughout Jasper and Mahaska counties.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Crumpacker Funeral Home with Rev. Geo. Pennington in charge. Interment in the Monroe cemetery.
Clarence Low, oldest son of William and Abigal Warren, was born October 29, 1874, on a farm 8 miles northeast of Pella and departed this life at Monroe on May 28, 1943, at the age of 68 years and 7 months. He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Pella at which time he went to Peoria to work in a general store and for a number of years ran the huckster wagon which covered the teritory around Sully, Granville and Taintor.
On February 4, 1906, he was united in marriage to Lois Hess. To this union was born two daughters, Pauline and Margaret, both of Monroe.
In November 1913 he moved to Monroe. For two years he was employed at Scharff’s store and from there he went to Cochrane’s store where he worked for the next 8 years.
During these years of serving the public many friendships were made which he treasured to the end.
Soon after coming to Monroe he became a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge. This association was a source of constant pleasure.
The later years of his life were spent on farms around Monroe. He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 3, 1941, and one brother, John Warren of Wright, Iowa.
He leaves to mourn his loss his two daughters, three brothers, James of Crystal Lake, Iowa, A. E. of Montezuma, Iowa, and Dr. E. T. Warren of Stuart, Iowa, also one sister, Mrs. George Burkes of Montezuma besides nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Monroe Mirror
