Rachael, the daughter of Floyd and Olive Blanche (Balmer) Rollstin, was born September 18, 1941, in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1959 and then attended cosmetology school. She owned her own beauty shop before she was married. Rachael was united in marriage with Charles “Chuck” Osborn on September 22, 1962, at the First Lutheran Church in Newton. She farmed alongside Chuck for many years; there weren’t any farming chores she wasn’t willing to do. She also handled all the bookkeeping for the farm. Rachael was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where she had served on the Church Council. She also was part of the Rainbow Girls and had been a member of several ladies’ and mothers’ groups. She enjoyed quilting and sewing. She had made hundreds of clothing items for herself and her family over the years and enjoyed sharing her sewing knowledge with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, taking much pride in her tomatoes. Rachael’s grandchildren will always remember her popcorn balls and the bowl of candy she had filled every time they came to visit.

Rachael is survived by her husband, Chuck of rural Newton; her children: Kevin (Christine) Osborn of rural Newton, Carrie Soderblom of Newton, and Christina (Chuck) Spangenburg of rural Newton; her grandchildren: Meghan (Eric) Hanson, Lindsay (Wade) Halverson, Justin (Lisa) Osborn, Jenelle (Nick) Braglia, Chelsea Soderblom, Melissa Soderblom (Mike McDonald), Kyle Soderblom (Jenn Boeding), Colton Spangenburg, and Kaylee Spangenburg; 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Nancy (Glenn “Pete”) LaFrenz. She was preceded in death by her parents; great-granddaughter, Madison Nesbitt; and a brother and sister in infancy.
