John Vanderleest, 74, Newton, died at Skiff Memorial Hospital, January 10.
Vanderleest, son of Gerrit and Jane DeGraaf Vanderleest, was born August 2, 1900, in Adams, Nebraska. He was married, February 13, 1918 to May McCuen, Monroe.
Services were conducted on January 14 at the Church of the Brethren, Prairie City, with Rev. Berwyn Oltman and Rev. William Miller officiating.
Survivors are his wife and six grandsons, Jerry Vanderleest, Jonathon Vanderleest, Newton, Larry Vanderleest, Long Beach, Calif., Terry Vanderleest, Springfield, Mass., Jay Vanderleest, San Antonio, Texas, and Ernest Vanderleest, Lapassa, Texas, brother Gerrit Vanderleest, Newton and three sisters, Mrs. Marie Steenhoek and Mrs. Jacob Van Ryswyk, Prairie City, and Mrs. John Van Ryswyk, San Antonio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, one sister and two brothers. Interment was in the Griffis Cemetery, Prairie City.
