April 30, 1946 ~ December 6, 2020 (age 74)

LeRoy Sterling Delk, 74, of Newton died on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 11, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, December 10, at the funeral home. Masks are required to attend the services and social distancing will be enforced. In addition a celebration of LeRoy’s life will be held this summer at the Metz Campground. Memorials in LeRoy’s name (checks made payable to Kevin Delk) may be left at the funeral home.

LeRoy, the son of Sterling and Morning (Gibson) Delk, was born on April 30, 1946 in Grinnell. He grew up in Kellogg and later moved to Newton where he lived most of his life. LeRoy served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. LeRoy worked at the Maytag Company for 30 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the UAW Local 997 and the VFW Post 1655. LeRoy was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping. He also collected guns and liked going to gun shows. LeRoy’s home was always open for friends to stop by and have a chat.

LeRoy is survived by his children, Kevin (Amy) Delk, MeLissa (Merek) Delk-Budinich, Kurt Delk, and Kory (Desire`) Delk, all of Newton; grandchildren, Tanner Delk, Ashlee (Dylan) Young, MeLayna Budinich, MaKarra Budinich, Harper Delk, Avery Omann, Garrett Cook, and Lindsay Campbell; his two sisters, Rose Anderson of Des Moines and Nancy Fuller (Russ) of Baxter; and his many nieces and nephews, including Tonia and Rob Hummel. He was preceded in death by his parents; several siblings; and his two dogs, Ruger and Boomer.
