Nelson went home to be with his Savior on October 17, 2020, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.

A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at the Newton Church of the Way, with a visitation just an hour prior to services, 9:30 until 10:30. {Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, facemasks are required.} Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, and as an expression of sympathy, memorials may be designated to Nelson's family.

Nelson Robert Hoskins, 89, was born October 9, 1931, in Madelia, MN., the son of A. Francis and Charlotte Lucile (Keyser) Hoskins. He attended the local senior high school. Nelson had served his country with the US Navy for 20 years, during the Korean War and during the Vietnam Era, 1948 – 1968.

On December 5, 1999, Nelson was united in marriage to Rhonda Ruth Nikkel in Pella. He was employed by Southern Iowa Utilities, retiring 1993. Nelson had devoted his life to his family and friends and attended the Newton Church of the Way. He was a member of the Newton America Legion Post #111, a member of the Newton Masonic Lodge, was a License Master Bird Bander and a member of the University of Maryland Ornithology Department.

Nelson is survived by his wife Rhonda Hoskins of Newton; his two sons; his three daughters; his ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his four sisters and four brothers; and his many good neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister. A Facebook Broadcast of the services for Nelson Hoskins will be 1030 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 27, on the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home and Cremation Services Facebook page.
