Zada Karlene Gifford, 54, of Newton died on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, in rural Newton. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Karlene’s name (checks made payable to Liz Rozendaal) may be left at the funeral home.

Karlene, the daughter of Gary and Phyllis (Swan) Otto, was born on November 9, 1965 in Newton. She was a lifelong resident of Newton. Karlene enjoyed collecting items, bowling, and playing slow-pitch softball. She also loved her grandchildren and dogs.

Karlene is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Brad) Rozendaal of Newton, Nathan Gifford of Des Moines, and Zachary Gifford of Ames; grandchildren, Peyton, Lane, Haylee, and Reagan Rozendaal and Allison and Katelyn Gifford; her brother, Marcus (Stella) Chapman of Huxley; and an aunt, Renee Otto of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; maternal grandparents, Howard and Violet Swan and paternal grandparents, Eugene and Marian Otto.
