Pauline Collister Lawton, 93, of Newton died Saturday morning, December 12, 1998, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, at Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The Rev. Emmanuel Dass, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, officiated. Burial was at Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or the Jasper County Historical Society.
Mrs. Lawton, the daughter of Michael and Marie Hensel Treichel, was born June 30, 1905 in Bentley, North Dakota. She was married to Fayette Collister in 1923 in North Dakota and to Robert Lawton in 1955, in Newton.
She moved to Waterloo in 1923 from North Dakota with her first husband. They moved to Ankeny in 1942, then to Newton in 1943, where she worked at the Maytag Company until her retirement in 1968.
Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, LaVerne and Alberta Collister of Colfax; two step-sons, John Lawton of North Carolina and Harold Lawton of Texas; two step-daughters, Pricilla Hayler of Oregon and Dorothy Roush of Indianola; three sisters-in-law, Myrtle Treichel, Charlotte Treichel and Rachel Treichel; three grandchildren, Lori Hilker, Tracy Lynch and Darcy Brown; five great-grandchildren, Erin and Meagan Hilker, Allan and Joseph Lynch and Annie Brown; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Fayette Collister in 1952 and Robert Lawton in 1985; a son, Adelbert Collister in 1971; a step-daughter, and seven brothers and a sister.
