Brice William Udelhoven, 28, the proud husband of Margot VanHouweling (6 years), father of Mylee Jo (7), Blaine William (3) and Maelynn Renae (2), fell into Jesus’ arms Saturday, July 11, 2020, at his home in Mingo surrounded by the people who love him. Brice won every battle during his two-year fight with ERMS, one of the toughest cancers to treat. He is known as one of the bravest and most optimistic fighters and was a strong man in a battled body. He endured more chemotherapy than any other patient his specialty team has treated.
Brice was born Jan. 19, 1992, in Newton, to Bill and Lesa. He played soccer for 13 years, felt the love being a middle child of two sisters, enjoyed the outdoors, stock car racing and “heavy ranching.” He wants us to remember him as the “best hay raker in Jasper County.”
He was a 2010 graduate from NHS. He enjoyed his position at Iowa Regional Utilities Association for six years and then obtained a job at McAninch as a heavy equipment operator so his wife could raise their children at home. Brice always wanted to make others proud of his hard work ethic. He helped many farmers after his treatment schedule made it difficult to keep his job.
Mylee made Brice a dad. He was so proud of this moment. She looks like her mom but is built like her dad. She is just as resilient and kind-hearted. Blaine is a daddy’s boy. Not only do they look alike with those baby blue eyes, but he is just as ornery. You could often find them snoozing in the recliner. Maelynn has Brice’s fearlessness and sassy attitude. It was most important for Brice to leave a legacy for his children. That was his purpose and he accomplished it, now it is up to all of us to carry it forward.
Many to miss and carry on his memory are his wife and children; parents, Bill Udelhoven (Becky Soderblom family), Lesa Chedester (Steve); Mark and Cheryl VanHouweling; siblings, Mackenzie Udelhoven, Rylie Udelhoven (Brady Woody), Vance VanHouweling (Brittney); niece, Skylar VanHouweling and Baby VanHouweling, due 2021; aunts and uncles, Chad Udelhoven (Jolie Gulling), Mike and Patti Udelhoven family, Jeni Wickliff (Dave Thomasson), Paula and Zane Thompson family, Brian and Danielle Cool family, Kyle and Wanda VanHouweling family, Tim and Mindy McCarthy family, Jeff and Merri DeReus family, Aaron VanHouweling, Wayne and Kim McCoy family, Tim and Julie VanCleave family and Amy Parks; grandparents, Bob Butin, Gary VanGilst (Ada Cormeny), Susan VanHouweling, Dorothy McCoy and Sue McAdams (Dan); special friends, Julie and Mark Smith family, Dr. Mohammed Milhem, Kelly Hand, Dr. Esgar Guarin, Kelli Schrock, Dr. Daniel Buroker, Olivia Ringgenberg, Dr. Richard Demming and many others. Those who join Brice in Heaven are grandparents, Dale and Mary Udelhoven, Judie Butin, Karen VanGilst; grandfathers-in-law, DeWayne McCoy and Myron VanHouweling; cousin, Tom Jackson; in-law, Mark McCoy; and friend, Brian Clymer.
Brice’s memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 16 at the Newton Church of the Way, 2306 S. Third Ave. E. in Newton. Burial will be at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in rural Newton (limited space). Immediately following the burial the family will greet friends and celebrate Brice’s life until 8 p.m. at the Fore Seasons Golf, 6232 Highway S74 S. in rural Newton. Memorials for Brice may be made out to Margot Udelhoven. Memorials may be left at the church on the afternoon of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.
