Colfax – Mary A. Freestone, 88, of Colfax, died Thursday, Nov. 7, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax, with Father Phil Cardenzana officiating. Burial will be at McKeever Cemetery in Colfax. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax is handling arrangements.
Friends may call on Sunday from noon until 8 p.m. at the church, where the family will be present from 2 until 4 p.m. A Vigil Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the church.
The daughter of George and Margaret Kennedy Gibson, she was born May 8, 1914, in Oswalt. She married John “Jack” Freestone on Nov. 27, 1935, in Stuart. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the area. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic church and Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Freestone of Colfax; a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and William Moffit of Colfax; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Guy and Frieda Teed, both of Colfax.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1992; and several brothers and sisters.
