Colfax, Iowa – Funeral services for Howard J. Alexander, 87, of Colfax, will be held Tuesday, July 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the Colfax First United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Jill Flyr, pastor of the church, will conduct services. A Masonic Service will be held tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.
Burial will be in McKeever Cemetery north of Colfax.
Friends may call at the funeral home today where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight.
Mr. Alexander died Friday, July 26, at his home.
Mr. Alexander was born Nov. 25, 1908, in Colfax, the son of Joseph Ryan and Florence Patrie Alexander. He was a 1925 graduate of Colfax High School.
He was married to Dorothy Beard Jan. 6, 1935, in Colfax. She preceded him in death in 1974. He was married to Margaret Farver Stewart in June 1992. She preceded him in death in 1994.
A lifelong resident of Colfax, Mr. Alexander was a machinist at Maytag, retiring in 1972. He was also a farmer. He was a member of the Colfax First United Methodist Church, a past member of the Riverside Masonic Lodge in Colfax, a member of the Preston Masonic Lodge in Prairie City and the U.A.W.
Survivors are a son and his wife, James and Edwina of Colfax; a daughter and her husband, Betty and Fred Brown of Newton; a daughter-in-law, Lucille (Mrs. Gary) Alexander of Colfax; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, a son, Gary in 1993; a brother, Harold; a sister, Esther Lind; and a granddaughter.
