Sylvia E. Groom, previously of Kellogg, died May 26, 2020, at home at the Gardens of Brookridge, Pharr, Texas at the age of 96 years.
Sylvia was born in Bottineau, N.D., and lived 13 years in Minnesota before moving to Iowa in 1948. She was a trust officer and administration loan officer at the Kellogg Savings Bank, where she retired in 1986.
She is survived by her four children, two sons, Merle Lee of Grinnell, and Gerald Ray and his wife Anne of Marion; and two daughters, Patricia Lynn Arguello and her special friend Thomas Brockling of Pharr, Texas and Sherry Lavern Priaulx and her husband David of Jackson, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandsons; one brother, Earl Wilhelm of Paso Robles, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews Mrs. Groom was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; her brother, Lawrence; her sister, Dorothy; her brother, Vernon; and her special friend, Andy Nicklaus.
A graveside celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. June 25 at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Face masks are required. Bring a chair if you are unable to stand.
