BROOKER, CORONADO, O’ROAKE

On Thursday, June 11, 2020, one day after turning 52, Mark R. Brooker was killed in a bicycle accident in Houston, Texas.
Mark was born in Newton and was an excellent student throughout high school and college, graduating with honors from Iowa State University in mechanical engineering. He resided in the Houston area after college where he worked for Phillips Petroleum and then Lyondellbasell.
Mark excelled in athletics. He was a high school state qualifier wrestler, participated in marathons, raced competitively in bicycle races, competed in world wide triathlons and qualified for the Iron Man three times. He was always busy with his hobbies of boating, snow skiing, surfing, hiking, biking and building gadgets to help stay off the grid. He was always in a good mood, had a quick smile for everyone and always spoke highly of others. He was very talented and persistent at figuring out how to resolve all kinds of issues.
Mark is survived by his partner of 16 years, Jason Coronado; parents, Bill and Jo; siblings, Barb Brooker O’Roake, Norm and Brenda Brooker and Paul and Pam Brooker. He was the fun uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held June 15 with numerous friends and family in Houston.
