Edythe L. Miller, 84, of Newton died Tuesday, March 16, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Memorial services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Newton with the Rev. Cindy Jean Saul officiating. The body has been cremated. Burial at Newton Union Cemetery will follow the memorial service. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

The family will greet friends during a coffee time in the fellowship hall of the church following burial. Memorials will be accepted to the United Presbyterian Church, Hospice of Jasper County or to the American Diabetes Association and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the afternoon of the service

The daughter of George and Inez (Burnham) Swisher, she was born April 26, 1919, in Lynnville. On May 18, 1939, she married Harlen W. Miller in Newton. She was an Avon representative for more than 40 years, worked at the Maytag Dairy Farm and cleaned houses.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and a morning coffee group at the Midtown Cafe.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Michele Miller of West Amana; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mike Freeman of Cheyenne, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Ivy Swisher of Newton; and a sister, Jenney McNew of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Michael; and a brother, Virgil Swisher.

Those left to honor Edythe's memory are her son and daughter-in-law, David and Michele Miller of West Amana, Iowa; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mike Freeman of Cheyenne, Wyoming; her 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, William and Ivy Swisher of Newton; and sister, Jenney McNew of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harlan in 1984, son, Michael, and brother, Virgil Swisher.

Edythe was an Avon representative for over 40 years. She had also worked at Maytag Dairy Farm and cleaned houses.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and her morning coffee group at the Midtown Cafe.

Memorials may be left to the United Presbyterian Church, Hospice of Jasper County or to the American Diabetes Association.
