Doris Miller, 87, of Newton died Monday, March 22, at Park Centre Health Care Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton with the Rev. Tiare Mathison-Bowie officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. Pence-Reese Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in her name.

The daughter of Pirl J. and Ada (Bell Peters) Hick, she was born Dec. 15, 1916, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1931. On Aug. 3, 1941, she married Ralph Lewis Miller in Altoona. She was a clerk for Marshall Hardware for 14 years and retired in 1966. She also worked at Helma Cole's dress shop. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed church activities, music and gardening.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gary L. and Paulette Miller of Delray Beach, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Frank Palma of Franklin, Tenn.; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and William Davis of Overland Park, Kan.; three grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
