PRAIRIE CITY -- Betty Lorraine Thomas, 79, died Thursday, April 29, at her home.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Colfax United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jill Flyr and the Rev. Richard Arrowood officiating. Burial will be at the Colfax Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday from noon until 8 p.m. at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jasper County.

The daughter of Lawrence Earl and Ruby Irene (Wonders) Rawlins, she was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Newton. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1943, and later graduated from the American Academy of Beauty in 1960.

On June 16, 1951, she married Arthur Garfield Thomas in Turlock, Calif. She was a beautician who owned beauty shops in Altoona and Colfax, and she also served the city of Colfax as a city clerk for many years.

Mrs. Thomas was a member of the United Methodist Church in Colfax, and was a member of the United Methodist Women, as well as member of the church's board of trustees. She also was a member of the Colfax Library Board of Trustees.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Cheryl Reed of Colfax; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Debbie Thomas of Prairie City; one sister, Bonnie M. Bruce of Pipe Creek, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry D. and Karol Rawlins of Lake Kiowa, Texas; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one grandson, Jason.
