Mrs. Lyman Young Dies in Hospital Saturday
Mrs. Lyman (NIP) Young 76, died Saturday in the University Hospital in Iowa City. She had been in failing health for several weeks and was taken to the Skiff Hospital in Newton.
On Wednesday, November 14th she entered the University Hospital but her condition continually worsened until the end came Saturday.
Zorida Iola Hanawalt, daughter of George and Julia A. Hanawalt was born November 12, 1880 in Jasper Co., Iowa. She passed away in the University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa November 17th, 1956 at the age of 76 years and 5 days.
She grew to womanhood in the vicinity of Colfax and on February 26th 1900 was united in marriage to Lyman Henry Young. To this union eight children were born, 3 sons, and 5 daughters. At the death of her daughter, Dorothy Morgan, she took into her home six of her children whom she mothered as her own.
She was a member of the Christian Church and devoted as much of her effort to it as time from her family would permit. She was a good neighbor, A loving grandmother and devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by 2 sons, Delbert of Colfax and George of New Brighton, Minn., 2 daughters, Mrs. Carl (Beverly) Webb of Colfax, and Mrs. Earl (Nonie) Miller of Shockopee, Minn., the grandchildren who resided with her, Mrs. William (Donna Mae) Cooper of Port Angles, Wash., Mrs. Paul (Marjorie) Collie of Renton, Wash., Dale Morgan of Eureka, Ca., and Delbert with the U. S. Army in Korea and William Morgan of Colfax. Also 2 sisters Mrs. Kate Good of Colfax and Mrs. John (Daisy) Diamond of Council Bluffs, one brother Elmer Hanawalt of Colfax, 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, 3 daughters, Dorothy Morgan, Dora Lumsdon and Malvina Young, one son Willard and one grandson Wayne Morgan.
Mrs. Young was a person who never complained, it was as if her faith was sufficient unto the day and she lived according to the works of the author who said "When peace like a river attendith my way. When sorrow like a sea billows roll. Whatever my lot, Thou taught me to say -it is well, it is well with my soul.
Funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church in this city Monday afternoon Nov. 19th at 2 O'clock with J. O. Whanger officiating.
Music was furnished by Mrs. George Rinker and Mrs. Lee Schmitt. Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. Harry Brant and Mrs. William Much.
Bearers were William Much, Rex Rorabaugh, John Bolen, Mitchell Orlick, Carl Elliott and Harry Brant. Burial was in the McKeever Cemetery north of Colfax. ~ Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Jasper Co., IA., Nov. 20, 1956
