A Sad Home

We last week chronicled the death of one of Mr. John D. Young's children from diphtheria - on Saturday evening another, Pearl a bright little girl of 8 years was also stricken down by the same disease and was buried on Sunday morning. The remaining members of the family who have been down with diphtheria are now convalescing, and it is hoped that trouble from that source is now ended.

In the midst of their sorrow and affliction, a little girl was born on Friday evening - coming as singly ray of sunshine - through the dark clouds that have over-shadowed their home for several weeks. ~ Newton Journal, 6 August 1889,Newton, Jasper County, IA
