Burned to Death at Colfax
Wright, Daughter

The 14-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wright, living at Old Mines, three miles from Colfax, met with a horrible death Monday afternoon. She was burning off the grass about their grounds when her clothing caught fire and her body was burned to a crisp before the flames were put out, the flesh dropping from her neck and shoulders. Her face and head, however, escaped the flames. She lived about three hours after the horrible accident. ~ The Newton Record, Thursday, April 12, 1900, Page 1, Column 2
