Life Story of Ollie Sigler Winters

Winters, Ollie Sigler

Ollie Sigler Winters, son of John T. and Phebe Jane Winters was born in Galesburg, Oct. 4, 1892 and lived there until 1935 when the family moved to Knoxville where they have lived ever since. He died at his home in Knoxville Oct. 29, 1956, at the age of 64 years and 24 days.

He was united in marriage to Sarah E. Mudgett on Oct. 19, 1921, and to this union were born three children, Louella Jane Middleton, Wendell E. Winters and Wynona A. Meloy. He was a member of the First Christian Church, a World War I veteran and a member of Oriental Lodge No. 61 of A.F. & A.M. of Knoxville.

Mr. Winters was employed at the Veterans Hospital for 22 years and had planned to retire on Oct. 31, the day of his funeral. He had been in ill health for several weeks.

He was one of seven children and was preceeded in death by his parents, one brother, Porter, and four sisters, Tillie Graffis, Ida Wheeler, Lisher Austin and Edna Zwank.

He is survived by his widow, three children, two grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Belle Zwank of Reasnor, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church on Oct. 31 with Rev. Alva T. Browning officiating. Burial was at the Hewitt Cemetery near Galesburg with the Evans Funeral Home in charge.
