Death of John T. Winters

DIED - At his home in Galesburg, June 5, 1904, J. T. Winters, aged fifty-five years, three months, and twelve days.

Deceased was born in Illinois, April 23, 1849 - moved from thence to Ohio, and two years later to Iowa, settling in Mahaska county, where he lived until he was thirty-four years old. He came to Jasper County and to Elk Creek township in 1883, where he has since resided, and where he has been engaged in the general mercantile business.

In 1869 he married Phoebe J. Sawyer, and to this union seven children were born.

Mr. Winters was a member of Co. I, 47th Regiment and served until near the end of the war. He was a member of the Board of Supervisors for three years and a Mason.

Mr. Winters was a good citizen, a kind father and husband, and had the respect and confidence of all who knew him.

His funeral was held from his home in Galesburg, and was attended by a vast concourse of neighbors and friends - among them the Board of Supervisors, part of the county officers and former Supervisors. ~ Jasper County News?
