Obituary

Nancy A. Aringdale was born in Talbot County, Maryland, November 27, 1810. In her infancy she came with her parents to Licking County, Ohio. August 6, 1829, she united in marriage with John Wheeler.

In 1844 they both united with the Lutheran Church.

In October 1849 they moved to Indiana, and in the spring of 1850 to McLean County, Illinois, where they remained till 1856, when they moved to Jasper County, this state.

There having been no Lutheran Church near, they both united with the Methodist Protestant Church at Hixson's Grove.

In March 1882 they came to Newton, and on January 14, 1883, they united with the Lutheran Church of this city.

December 6, 1887, Brother Wheeler died of paralysis. Since then Mother Wheeler, though frequently expressing her loneliness has always manifested a cheerful Christian spirit, longingly awaiting the time when her Lord and Master should say, "It is enough, come up higher."

On Thursday morning, November 22, at about nine o'clock that time came, and she quietly passed away in peace at a ripe old age of 83 years, 11 months and 25 days.

She was the mother of eleven children (4 sons and 7 daughters) six of whom (3 sons and 3 daughters) together with 57 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren remain to mourn her departure.

The funeral services took place at the Lutheran Church Saturday morning, and the interment was at Mt. Zion, south of the city, Rev. J. C. Jacoby officiating. ~ The Newton Record, Friday, November 30, 1894, Page 10, Column 2
