Miss Amanda Watkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Watkins, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Zeiley of Monroe, Monday, January 21, 1895, after an illness of two weeks from brain fever.

Amanda Watkins was born in Wild Cat Grove, Jasper County, February 22, 1873, and resided there until 1884, when she went to make her home with Mr. and Mrs. Zeiley near Monroe, where she has since resided.

Miss Watkins was a member of the Baptist Church at Monroe and was an earnest worker in the different church societies. She was the youngest of twelve children, six of whom preceded her to that land of rest and peace. Her sisters and brothers who were present at her funeral were: Mrs. Will Rothrock, of Newton; Mrs. Ed. Hankins, of Colfax; Mrs. Chas. Burnett, of Stuart; L. W. Watkins, of Des Moines; and Miss Nerva Watkins, of Colfax.

Funeral services were held from her late home in Monroe Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Mills. The remains were brought to this place Tuesday morning and services were held in the U. P. Church at Wild Cat, after which the remains of a bright, noble, young life were laid to rest. ~ The Newton Record, Friday, January 25, 1895, Page 1, Column 6
