Tuttle, Charles

Charles Tuttle, who with his wife and children, left Newton last May for Sedalia, Missouri, was shot and killed by Milton Sites, at about 8:30 Monday evening, September 2nd.

Tuttle was under the influence of liquor and while in this condition insisted in riding in Sites' wagon. Sites objected and drawing a revolver ordered him to get out, which he did, but afterwards endeavored to get back in when he was shot and killed. Sites had had trouble with a man by the name of Burns Castle, for whom Tuttle had worked, and claimed that he was afraid of any man who had ever been employed by his enemy and therefore did the shooting in self-defense. Tuttle was a carpenter by trade.
