Wednesday Rites Held Here For Muriel Phipps, 44
Muriel Ilene Phipps (nee Kirby)

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Smith Funeral Home for Mrs. Don (Muriel Ilene) Phipps, 44, of Grinnell, wo died suddenly Monday morning at an Iowa City hospital.

Officiating at the services was Elder Fred Phipps of LeGrand. Vocal music was provided by Mrs. Noel Taylor and flower bearers were Mr. Max Meldrem and Mrs Verlan Owens.

Serving as pallbearers were Max Stanley, Virgil Stanley, Laverne Weaver, Gaylord Weaver, Fred Weaver, Jr., and Derald Weaver. Burial was in Rock Creek cemetery.

She was the daughter of Joe and Alma Weaver Kirby and was born March 24, 1920, near Gilman. After attending the schools of Gilman and Newburg, she was graduated with the class of 1937 at Newburg high school. On Dec. 31, 1941, she was united in marriage in Missouri with Don Phipps and to this union was born one daughter, Marcia Ann.

In addition to her husband and daughter, Mrs. Phipps is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kirby of Newburg; three brothers, Gerald Kirby of Cincinnati, Ohio, Rex Kirby of Newburg, and Burnel Kirby of Cedar Falls; and three sisters, Mrs. Virgil S. (Marvel) Adams of near Newburg, Mrs. Vernon (Phyllis) Graham of near Grinnell, and Mrs. Weldon (Wanda) Gray of Pekin, Ill.

Proceding her in death was one brother, Dennis, when he was two years of age.
