Elmer L. Parmley Dies At Hospital

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday, April 5) at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home for Elmer L. Parmley, 67, of Rte. 2, Grinnell, who died Saturday morning, April 3, at Grinnell General Hospital where he had been a patient for the past several weeks.

The Rev. L. Willard Reynolds, pastor of the Newburg United Church of Christ, officiated.

Organist was Mrs. Donald J. Renaud. Vocalists were Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Palmer and Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Sharp.

Serving on the flower committee were Mrs. Lawrence Wallis, Mrs. Lucile Newcomer and Mrs. Kari Pearson.

Pallbearers were Jack Suterland, Robert Stonewall, Frank Patterson, Earl Sleeuwenhoek, Lawrence Wallis and Kari Pearson.

Burial was in the Rock Creek Cemetery.

The son of Brackson D. and Sally Brown Parmley, Mr. Parmley was born on April 29, 1903, near Grinnell. He received his education in the rural schools west of Grinnnell in the Rock Creek area and also attended Grinnell high school for one year.

Mr. Parmley married Velma Donnan on Jan. 25, 1926, at Montezuma. Following their marriage they farmed in the Rock Creek area and then moved to Gilman and farmed there for 20 years. In the spring of 1949 they moved to their farm south of Newburg.

Mr. Parmley attended the Newburg Congregational Church and was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Cedar Valley Farm Business Association.

Survivors include his wife, Velma; a son, Daniel of Rte. 3, Grinnell; his daughter-in-law, Edith; three grandchildren - - David, Paul and Janet; a brother, Jerome, of Grinnell; two half-sisters - - - Mrs. Jennie Chase and Mrs. Fred Adkins, both of Grinnell and his nieces and nephews.

Mr. Parmley was preceded in death by his parents; and infant son, Robert; five half brothers, and seven half sisters.
