James Parker Dies; Services Tomorrow

Parker, James

James Parker, 81, a lifetime resident of the Gilman community, died Thrusday morning at Grinnell General Hospital East, following hospitalization the last nine days.

The son of Richard and Matilda Paul Parker, Mr. Parker was born March 9, 1887, on a farm in Hickory Grove Township, Jasper County. He attended the rural schools near his home.

On March 14, 1917, he married Esther Wallace at Newton. After their marriage, the couple farmed the home place south of Gilman for 25 years.

In 1939 they moved to their home in Gilman.

Mr. Parker was a member of the Gilman Community church and the Lions Club.

Survivors include his widow, Esther; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Frances) Ross of Spirit Lake; one son, Paul Parker; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Sam.

Funeral services for Mr. Parker will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Gilman Community Church with the Rev. Wendell Henline, interim pastor of the church, officiating.

Vocalist will be Ronald Rainey and organist will be Mrs. Marion Meling. Pallbearers will be Martin Carlson, Arthur Weaver, T. S. Weaver, Bruce Doane, Kenneth Arthur and Eldon Jones.

Burial willl be in Prairie View Cemetery at Gilman.

Friends may call at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home until 9 a.m. on Friday and thereafter at the Gilman Community Church.
