H. Paget, 84, Dies in Muscatine; Rites Here Friday

Hyacinthe Paget

Hyacinthe Paget, 84, native of Belgium and father of Yance Paget of this city, died suddenly of a heart ailment early Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Lucas, at Muscatine, Ia.

In addition to Mr. Paget of Newton and Mrs. Lucas, three sons and another daughter survive: Louis of Mississippi, Paul of Davenport, Ia., and Arthur of Everett, Wash., and Mrs. John Bailey of Newton.

The body will be returned here for services Friday at 2 o'clock in the Murdoch Funeral home and burial will be in Colfax.

A resident of Newton and Colfax for approximately 50 years, Mr. Paget was associated with coal mining operations. He had also resided in What Cheer, Ia.

Mrs. Paget preceded him in death about 30 years ago and a son, Henry, died in September, 1943.

Paget Services Held Friday

Services were conducted Friday, Feb. 2, at the Murdoch Chapel for Hyacinth Paget, long time Newton resident, who died of a heart condition, Monday, Jan. 28, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. John Lucas, in Muscatine.

Dr. e. P. Gabriel of the Newton Christian Church officiated and Mrs. Frank Koksma gave two vocal selections, “Face to Face” and “No Night there,” with Mrs. R. L. Jackson accompanying. Mrs. Koksma and Mrs. Ola Clark were in charge of the flowers. Pallbearers were: Frank Koksma, E. H. Jennings, Bert Snook, P.J. Thompson, O. O. Dooley and G. Frank Wilson. Interment was in the Colfax Cemetery.

Hyacinth Paget was born in Leige, Belgium, June 14, 1861. In 1883 he was united in marriage to Pauline Damerval at Lens, France. Two sons were born in France, but died in infancy and are buried there. They came to the United States in 1889 and settled at What Cheer, Ia., where nine children were born, five sons and four daughters, two dying in infancy. His wife preceded him in death about 30 years ago.

Surviving are six children: Yance Paget of Newton, Paul of Davenport, Arthur of Everett, Wash., Louis of Brinkly, Ark., Mrs. Elmer Bailey and Mrs. John Lucas, of Muscatine. With the latter two he has made his home since 1937
