Death of Jay L. Ogg

Ogg, Jay L.

E. C. Ogg, Esq., was called to Creston Monday afternoon, by a telegram bringing the sad news of the death of his brother, J. L. Ogg, which had occurred that morning at the hospital in Clarinda, where deceased had been taking treatment for some time. For over a year Jay’s health had been gradually breaking down under the weight of business cares, both body and mind being affected.

A few months ago, he disposed of his business at Creston and at his own request he was taken to the asylum at Clarinda, where it was hoped competent skill and proper care would arrest the terrible disease, which was gradually bearing him down. But his hopes were not to be realized. His disease was hardening of the brain, which resulted in progressive paralysis.

Jay was born in this county, and most of his early life was spent here. He had been a successful clothing merchant at Creston for several years. He was about forty-two years of age, and leaves a wife and two children, whose home is in Creston. His aged mother and one brother and sister, Marshall and Josie, reside near Fairmount in this county; a brother and sister, Eli C. Ogg and Mrs. J. A. Mattern in this city; and a sister, Mrs. Frank Keables, near Laurel.

Jay was a genial, happy dispositioned man, honorable in all things, and easily made friends of everybody with whom he came in contact. His death is a sad blow to his relatives and a source of profound sorrow to a large circle of friends. His body was taken to Chicago for interment beside his first wife.
