Death of Mrs. Wm. Neshum, Jr.

Neshum, Minnie (Rorabaugh)

The death of Mrs. Minnie Neshum, which occurred at her home southwest of Newton, last Thursday evening, July 27th, not only brought deep sorrow to husband and parents, and filled with gloom the happy home in which she had been the light and joy, but carried a feeling of the profoundest grief to the heart of hundreds of friends who had known and loved the deceased from her infancy.

Mrs. Neshum was of a cheerful disposition, always looking at the brightest side of everything happy herself and ever striving to bring into other lives the same sunshine that always shone in her own. She leaves a young husband, to whom she had been married about seven years, upon whom she had lavished the richest treasures of her heart’s affection, and who in return had idolized his young wife; one son, little Murray, but six years of age, who is bereft of his best earthly friend, mother, when he most needs her tender care; and her loving parents whose hearts she had cheered and blessed throughout all her life, now bowed down in grief over her death. Her only sister, Mrs. Wm. Beese of Valley Junction, was permitted to be by her bedside during the last few hours of her life, a sad but comforting boon.

Mrs. Minnie Pearl Neshum, daughter of Daniel and Catharine Rorabaugh, was born near this city, Feb. 12, 1872, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to William Neshum, Jr., June 1, 1892. Several months ago her health became impaired, but not sufficient to alarm her friends until about three weeks ago, when complications set in which refused to yield to medical skill or the tender care of friends and her beautiful life work closed, and she has gone to the Christian’s reward. Her age was 27 years, four months and fifteen days.

A large concourse of people gathered at the funeral services in the Christian Church at 10 o’clock, on Saturday, July 29th, which were conducted by the pastor, Elder J. C. Hanna. The sermon, singing and exercises throughout were beautifully appropriate, and the lovely flowers spoke plainly of the love borne for the deceased by a large circle of friends.
