DEATH CLAIMS MRS. GEORGE MEESE AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS

Funeral From Bumgardner Funeral Home, Saturday Afternoon Mrs. George Meese, 62, passed away July 11th at Newton following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from the Bumgardner Funeral Chapel in Colfax, with the Rev. Paul Potter officiating.

Edna Maud Hurst, daughter Hiram and Alfreida Hurst, was born on May 3rd, in the year 1884 near Colfax, Iowa, and passed from us on July 11th, 1946, at 9:15 a. m. at the Jasper County Rest Home in Newton, Iowa. Her age at the time of her death was 62 years, 2 months and 8 days.

She spent her childhood and school days near, Farrar, Iowa. She attended the Farrar Methodist Protestant Church. She was united in marriage to George Meese on December 27th, 1910, at Maxwell, Iowa, and to this union was born 5 children, Josie, Opal, Hazel, Sylvia and Henry who died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Meese made their home in Farrar and joined the Methodist Protestant Church. Later the family moved to Valeria where she resided until the children reached maturity. She began to fail in health and soon after moved to Colfax, Iowa.

During the past 5 years of her life she resided in the Jasper County Rest Home. Mrs. Meese had been ill over a period of 15 years.

She leaves to keep the memory of her life, her mother, Alfreida Hurst of Maxwell, Iowa, her immediate family, Josie Van Riper of Colfax, Iowa; Opal Fields, also of Colfax, Iowa; Hazel Lester of Newton, Iowa; and Sylvia Pe Long of Attica, Iowa; two brothers, Carl Hurst of Maxwell, Iowa; and Virgil Hurst of California, 10 grandchildren and a host of friends.

Mr. Meese preceded his wife in death in 1941. Two brothers and her father also preceded her to that other land.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Earl Plummer and Mrs. George Rinker. Pall bearers were Roy Westfall, Charles Hoy, Arthur Poorbaugh, Edward Fields, Edward Hay and Alfred Gifford.

Burial was in the Graham Cemetery.
