Mrs. Carrie Staker Died Monday At Mingo
Mrs. Carrie Staker, 71, died Monday at her home in Mingo. She had been in failing health. The past year and death resulted from a heart attack.
A genuinely good woman, she had been active her entire life in church and social circles in Mingo, her home since early childhood.
Her husband, Frank Staker, preceded her in death seven years ago. She is survived by five children, Miss Lois Staker, Carl and Earl of Mingo, Charles of Des Moines and John of Akron, Ohio, L. B. Everett is a cousin, Mrs. Burtress Baker an aunt, and Mrs. W. C. Pierce and Ed Staker of Colfax and Mrs. F. A. Clark of Des Moines are nieces and nephew of the deceased.
The funeral was held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Mingo Methodist Church with Rev. Carl Gray officiating. Interment was had at the Greencastle cemetery.

Carrie Christina Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Baker, was born at Greencastle, Iowa, July 30, 1868. She passed to the Great Beyond, April 3, 1939 at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 3 days.
She was the eldest of a family of seven children. She grew to womanhood in and around Mingo and on March 1, 1893, was married to Frank Eli Staker, who preceded her in death December 19, 1928.
She was a member of the Mingo M.E. Church, a very active and faithful worker contributing much to the life of the community. She was very active in the Missionary Society and ladies Aid Society and gave freely of her time and substance as long as health permitted.
She was very unassuming, very sweet in disposition, and lived a life of service for others, never too tired to do things for the ones she loved.
Her devotion and untiring efforts to make her children happy are a memorial to her. She was a great source of strength and comfort, whatever the need. She has left them a wonderful heritage.
She lived practically all her life around Mingo, 32 years being spent at the present home site.
She was one of God’s noblest women.
The bereaved relatives are five children, Earl, Carl and Lois of Mingo, John of Akron, Ohio, and Charles of Des Moines; six grandchildren, Louise, Eldon, Harold, Beverly, Joanne and Maxine Staker. Three sisters, Mrs. A. W. Frey, of Mingo; Mrs. B. C. Baker of Gresham, Oregon; Mrs. E. C. Southern of Des Moines; and two brothers, Mr. H. M. Baker of Mingo and Charles E. Baker of Newton.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Mingo Methodist church with the Rev. Carl Gray officiating.
Music was furnished by Eldon Geisler, Otha Hulse, Dorothy Southern and Alta Neal, with Mrs. L. L. Picket, accompanist.
Pall bearers were: Fred Clark, Burtis Frey, Harry Frey, Eldon Staker, Harold Staker and Harry Baker.
Interment was in the Greencastle cemetery.
