Funeral services were conducted this afternoon (Monday) for Mrs. Lawrence (Luella Elizabeth) Madill from the Grinnell Methodist church, Mrs. Madill, 60, died Friday at a local hospital.

Officiating at the services was the Rev. Willard Reynolds, pastor of the Friends church at Earlham. Vocal music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Palmer, accompanied by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner at the organ. Flower bearers were Mrs. Earl Graham and Mrs. Everett Emmert. Pallbearers were Earl Graham, Arthur McDowell, Rolla Whitaker, C. M. Pilgrim, Everett Emmert, and Russell Ladley. Interment was in Prarie View cemetery at Gilman.

The daughter of Elmer and Stella Main Gause, she was born near Searsboro on July 11th, 1904. When she was a small girl, the family lived near Limon, Colo., for five years, returning to the Searsboro-Lynnville area where she attended school and graduated from Lynnville high school. As a girl she was a member and very active in the Lynnville Friends church.

She attended William Penn College and Iowa State Teachers College and taught in nearby schools until her marriage.

On June 2nd, 1932, at Lynnville, she was united in marriage with Lawrence Madill. To this union were born two daughters who survive: Arlene Madill of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. William (Verna) Boland Jr., of Fairfax, Iowa.

Her married life was spent on the farm. The family farmed near Newburg and Montezuma before moving to the farm just east of Grinnell where they resided for 22 years. They moved to Grinnell last January.

Mrs. Madill spent several years as a 4-H leader with the Grant club.

In 1955, she was named rural "Mother of the Year" in the Grinnell area. After moving to Grinnell she attended the Methodist church where she was a Sunday School teacher for several years. She was an active member of the Searchlight Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Edwin; and one sister, Ada Fern.

In additiion to her husband and daughters, she is survived by two granddaughters, Brenda and Julie Boland; three sisters, Mrs. George (Mary) Howard of Valley, Neb., Mrs. Vance (Eula) Phillips of Gardena, Calif., and Mrs. Dale (Berdena) McMains of Sun Valley, Calif., and two brothers, Afton Gause of Searsboro and Roy Gause of Fort Woth, Tex.
